In honor of you...

So the question for the weekend is what are you doing for your mother for mother’s day?

Many may say that they celebrate their mother all year , others may embrace family traditions. As I reflect upon this time last year, my mother was contemplating the same thoughts, but this year it is different. My mother is dealing with the fact that this year she will be celebrating mother’s day without her mother. There are many who are facing the same situation. Today’s wellness message is dedicated to help those who are healing from the loss of a mother, especially during this time.

First, heal with favorite activities…

Read her favorite book, volunteer for her favorite charity, visit with family or friends, simply share stories about your mom, eat at her favorite restaurant, cook her favorite meal, or participate in a hobby that reminds you of your mom's passion.

Remember your mom’s spirit…

As much at this may be hard for some, visit your mother’s grave and plan a fun activity! Leave flowers with little gifts, homemade trinkets, or cards tucked inside the planter.

Create New Traditions…

The first mother’s day without your mom will be difficult, but go through your grief. As each mother’s day comes around grief may still be a part of your healing. Think of mother’s day as a connection day! Create new traditions to do each year…take a family photo in honor of your mother, take a vacation to your mother’s favorite place, plant a tree in memory of your mother.

Understand that whether your mother is living or deceased, near or far, or whether you have a close relationship or distant relationship…she is still to be honored because she chose life and life was you!

  1. once again you managed to bring tears to my eyes... this is such a great topic for those who have to endure Mother's Day without... Rather than stay in the house and wallow in depression, its important to CELEBRATE your mother, even if she is no longer here. GREAT POST
